Client:

Montagu and Fenham FC, Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Project:

Consultant services to Football Foundation supported small grant and additional external funding support

Delivery:

Due to age, neglect and underinvestment, the clubs traditional small indoor training facility was in great danger of collapsing with insurmountable full rebuild costs. A plan was but in place with local construction experts and 3G carpet suppliers to refurbish and redevelop the site.

Support:

The club required urgent assistance to source funding – both from the Football Foundation and additional external sources to refurbish their existing facility due to weather damage and general disrepair.

Following consultation with local contractors, Newcastle City Council, a new long-term lease was negotiated, alongside landlord’s permission to develop the site and restore a heavily utilised unique facility.

Funding was secured from 3 sources to support the project; £25,000 from the Football Foundation, £18,300 from the SUEZ capital fund and £5,500 from Banks Mining towards a total project cost of £75,000 (including some additional works to create a safe viewing area and replacement 3G carpet).

Outcomes:

The facility is now safe to use, water and weather tight via a new roof and internal structure. The need to ensure the facility was made fit for purpose prior to the forthcoming winter has been tested earlier than anticipated with the recent poor weather conditions and once completed (due June 2021) will ensure the club can once more develop its next generation in a suitable environment which meets their specific needs.

Approximate value of project: £75,000
